When Should I Plan My Photoshoot to Catch the Lupines in Bloom?


If you're hoping to take advantage of the lupine fields in the Comox Valley, the ideal time to visit is usually between mid-May and early June. This is when the lupines are at their most vibrant. Lupines are truly one of my favorite wildflowers! They bring such a a magical feel to any photoshoot. You can find them in various spots across the Comox Valley, and even along stretches of Highway 19, where they often grow in unexpected, patches. I first discovered one of these hidden lupine fields in 2022, and it instantly became one of my favorite local secrets. While I’m keeping the exact location on the down low, I would encourage you to explore as there are so many amazing locations out there!

Tips for Visiting the Lupine Fields


If you're heading out to experience this beautiful place, here are a few practical tips to help you enjoy it safely and respectfully:


Skip the perfume or scented products

Wildflower fields attract bees, other pollinators, and oftentimes mosquitoes. Avoiding perfume can significantly decrease your chances of confusing or attracting bugs in unwanted ways.


Wear sturdy shoes and cover your legs

The fields often have hidden thistles and uneven ground, so long pants and closed-toe footwear will keep you comfortable (and scratch-free).


Have fun and be respectful

Of course, enjoy your time here, but also remember to help protect it so enjoy it as well! Please give others the opportunity to see this beautiful location by avoiding picking flowers, stepping on them, or taking them with you. Let’s keep this place vibrant for everyone!

Why the Lupine Fields are Worth the Visit


The lupine fields of the Comox Valley are more than just a beautiful sight. They’re an experience that stays with you long after you leave. Whether you're visiting with a camera in hand or simply standing still and soaking it all in, there's something deeply calming about being surrounded by a field of wildflowers swaying in the breeze.


For photographers, the fields offer endless inspiration, especially during golden hour! But you don’t need to be a photographer to appreciate them. Sometimes the most rewarding moments come from simply pausing, breathing in the fresh air, and letting the quiet beauty of nature ground you. It’s a reminder of how stunning and fleeting nature can be, and why it’s so important to protect and appreciate it while we can.
