What makes Comox Lake Bluffs a Great Location for Engagement Sessions?

Beautiful Scenery: Comox Lake Bluffs have breathtaking views of Comox Lake and surrounding natural landscapes, providing the perfect backdrop for engagement photos! The bluffs themselves are gorgeous, and have you seen the mountains in the background? STUNNING!

Natural GOLDEN-HOUR Light: The evening light at Comox Lake Bluffs create the ideal lighting conditions for beautiful photos. During sunset, the light rays cast a warm glow over the lake and bluffs. The sun comes from the perfect angle over the mountains and on a clear day the light streaks look unreal! This can enhance the romantic atmosphere of your engagement photos.

Versatility: Whether you prefer the bluffs, lake, mountains or the forested area, Comox Lake Bluffs has a variety of beautiful settings for engagement sessions. My favourite locations for photos are the locations that provide the option for multiple background settings, and lighting situations.

Privacy and Serenity: Unlike more well-known crowded locations, Comox Lake Bluffs provide a sense of privacy and seclusion, allowing couples to feel comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera during their photoshoot. This intimacy often translates into natural, candid moments.

BONUS: I don't have to spend additional hours editing people out of the background!

Local Charm: As part of the Comox Valley area, Comox Lake Bluffs reflect the local culture and natural beauty that define Vancouver Island. Incorporating local elements into engagement sessions can add a meaningful touch for couples with ties to the area or those seeking an authentic Pacific Northwest experience.

Where are the Comox Lake Bluffs Located & How to Get There?

When you are driving down Comox Logging road, you need to pass the bridge (where a large number of people are generally parked in the summer). Continue up Comox Logging road for another 1-2 km. There will be multiple trail heads on both sides of the road. Once you start driving up a hill, park beside the first trail head on your left.

Follow the trail straight until you have reached the lake. Once you are facing the lake, take a right and walk alongside the lake until you have found the bluffs. The trail to the bluffs is about 1-2 km.

The trails are generally well-maintained but can be uneven and rocky in places, so sturdy footwear is advisable.

What is the Best Time of Day to Visit the Comox Lake Bluffs for Photography?

As a photographer, I always keep lighting in mind. What will look the most flattering for you? What will enhance the landscapes the most?

Personally, I feel that Golden Hour is the best time to visit the Comox Lake Bluffs for portrait photography. I typically arrive 2 hours prior to sunset. Both sunrise and sunset are ideal for portraits- the soft, flattering light reduces the appearance of imperfections and creates a gentle, even illumination on your subjects' faces.

Additionally, this soft light can transform landscapes, creating gentle, warm tones on the mountains, bluffs and foliage. However, if you are looking for a more vibrant, crisp look in your photos and are not worried about shadows on peoples faces, mid day is a beautiful time to visit as well!

Overall, golden hour's combination of soft, warm light, long shadows, and enhanced colors makes it a preferred time for my photography style. If you're looking to capture stunning and evocative images in natural settings, I would highly recommend sunset at Comox Lake Bluffs.
