This forested riverside gem offers a little bit of everything: trails, big trees, and a lovely river flowing into a waterfall. It’s one of my absolute favourite locations for families and couples who love to explore and want their photos to feel adventurous, real, and full of west coast magic.

Why I Love Nymph Falls for Family Photography

As a Comox Valley family photographer, I’m always drawn to locations that offer both beauty and variety, and Nymph Falls delivers every time. The tall evergreens and rich green forest are perfect for the families that love those green, forest portraits. While the riverbanks and waterfalls bring a whole other aspect to the gallery! Kids love hopping over stones, playing in the water and running on the trails! It’s a location that brings out natural smiles and genuine connection- perfect for those adventurous, story-filled family photos.

Being Mindful of Water Levels & Safety During Your Nymph Falls Family Session

While Nymph Falls is an incredible place for family photos, it's also important to be mindful of the seasonal water levels. In late spring or after heavy rain, the river can run fast and high, making certain spots near the water less accessible, especially for little ones. I always scope out the area ahead of time and guide families to the safest spots for exploring and photos. Whether the water is rushing or low and calm, we always prioritize safety first, keeping a close eye on curious feet near slippery rocks and wet edges.

Embracing Playful Moments in the Tidepools Below Nymph Falls

One of my favourite parts of shooting at Nymph Falls is heading down to the little tidepools and shallow areas just below the waterfall. When the water levels are safe, these spots are perfect for letting the kids splash, explore, and just be themselves. It’s where some of the most genuine, joy-filled moments happen. Messy, candid, and totally unposed photos are some of my favourites. I always encourage families to embrace the adventure, kick off their shoes (if they’re up for it!), and lean into the natural beauty and fun that this spot brings. These are often the photos that also become favourites of the family (the ones that feel like real life, full of laughter and connection)!
