If you're looking for a relaxed outdoor location in the Comox Valley, the Cumberland side of Comox Lake is one of my favourite hidden gems for small family and couples sessions. It has easy access from the parking area, and the location itself is stunning! Enjoy the beautiful mountain views and rocky shoreline beside the lake without needing to go on a long hike.
Easy Access & Incredible Views
One of the biggest reasons I recommend this location is how accessible it is. The shoreline is just a short walk from the parking lot, making it a wonderful choice for couples, families with young children, or anyone who prefers not to hike far for beautiful photos. Once you arrive, you can see the beautiful, glacier-fed lake, mountains, many trees and a open, rocky shoreline. Cumberland Lake Park Campground also offers nearby amenities, making it an easy place to spend an evening before or after your session.
A Rocky Lake Shoreline: Beautiful Images & Safety
Unlike sandy beaches, the Cumberland side of Comox Lake features a natural rocky shoreline. The rocks add can add beautiful texture your images. Because of the uneven terrain, I always recommend wearing sturdy, comfortable footwear for your session. My priority for everyone to enjoy the experience while also keeping everyone safe and comfortable.
Sunshine, Fog & Beautiful West Coast Evenings
One of the things I love most about photographing at Comox Lake is that every session feels different. On clear evenings, the sunset light is gorgeous on the water and mountains, creating soft, warm images. However, in the fall and winter, this location often has mist and fog around the mountains and across the lake. This is such a beautiful fall feel and seems almost dreamlike. Each season and session in this location has been such a blessing. And with the ever-changing West Coast weather, you never know what you will be blessed with!
