A Hidden Gem on the Parksville Coast of Vancouver Island
Discovering this beautiful location on Vancouver Island felt like it was meant to be! Although this Madrona Point beach is relatively small, it is also typically quiet! This peaceful setting makes it perfect for family photos without distractions or crowds.
What I love most about this location is how accessible it is. The beach is just steps from the parking area, making it ideal for families with young children or anyone who doesn’t want to walk too far. And when the sun begins to set? The golden hour light here is absolutely breathtaking! It wraps everything in the softest, dreamiest glow. It’s the kind of light that makes those candid moments even more magical.

Making Memories That Feel Like You
Choosing a location that truly feels like you is such an important part of the photography experience. If you’re someone who loves the ocean breeze, quiet shores, and the calming rhythm of waves, Madrona Point might be the perfect fit. Its rocky coastline and golden light create such a beautiful spot to relax and enjoy those sweet family moments.
But maybe your heart belongs in the forest, by a waterfall, or beside a still, quiet lake, and that’s just as beautiful! What matters most is choosing a place that speaks to you- somewhere that draws you in and helps you feel present, connected, and inspired. When you’re in a space that feels right, your photos naturally reflect that comfort and authenticity.

Tips for Planning Your Own Dream Photoshoot in Parksville, B.C.
1. Choose the Right Time of Day
Golden hour (just after sunrise or before sunset) offers the most flattering, soft, golden light. At Madrona Point, the evening light tends to hold everything in a beautiful golden glow! This is perfect for capturing warm, natural moments. Yes, sunset photos in the summer can be as late as 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm, but have you considered late fall, winter or early spring? Sunset on this day was around 4:45 pm, and we met around 3:00 pm to capture this stunning light!
2. Dress for Comfort & Style
Pick outfits that reflect your family’s style but also let you move and feel relaxed. Neutrals, soft earth tones, or colors that complement your location and skin tones work beautifully in natural light and can make your photos that much more appealing. Don’t forget to layer! Madrona Point can sometimes be breezy, especially in the late afternoon. Light sweaters, cardigans, and warm footwear not only keep you warm and comfortable, but can also look so lovely!
3. Let Go of Perfect & Trust the Process
The best photos come from real moments—play, laughter, connection, and maybe even a little chaos! Don’t worry about posing or perfection. The goal is to capture your family as you are, beautifully and joyfully. I will guide you with gentle prompts and poses that incorporate lots of movement and fun to capture those beautiful, candid laughs and images!
